Narrate your experience in architecture journey till date. What makes your work unique?

Both art and science have played a pivotal part in my life since childhood. Even today, I tend to combine the free flow of arts with methodical science and come up with fascinating designs with each new project. My professional journey began in 2006 and led me to renovate a project in New York that subsequently led to numerous opportunities for me, such as a Penthouse Project in DLF Magnolias, which became the talk of the town. Working on the Delhi Metro station and DLF monorail stations in Gurgaon further helped me as a designer to gain real-time perspective on the industry with hands-on experience at developing feasible spatial large scale layouts and details.

My notion is to place significant emphasis on every detail, along with a practical approach to form & function in each of my designs, making my work distinct. The inspiration I find  in nature, people and typographic elements sets my design apart from the rest. It is through these details, I connect with the project at a deeper level, opening up new innovative possibilities.

How have designs evolved over the years – then and now

In today’s fast-moving world, it is often challenging to explain the defined norms of architecture & design. In the contemporary world, design is no longer confined to prevalent trends but has instead evolved to become a pursuit of constantly redefining the trends by incorporating the latest technology that enhances user experience.

Modern architects & designers are now highly conscious of the environmental impacts as well as local aesthetics. Designs are now more user-centric and sustainable, focusing on luxurious spatial layouts. Earlier, there was a clear demarcation between work, home and entertainment. The onset of the pandemic and the impending lockdown has shifted the definitions, and the lines are quickly disappearing. For instance, residential spaces are now expected to cater to all daily activities such as a workspace, an entertainment room, a relaxation area, and an exercise space.

Built spaces have become multi-functional. Schematic layouts designed today offer an allowance for space and user flexibility. For instance, offices now have lounging spaces provided for their employees. Architectural design is the ability to connect to the functions of a planned space with a users’ mindset and expectations, and designers, thus, need to understand and evolve to create a delicate balance between these aspects.
