Gitesh Mehta explores the art of Warli through White Studios’ latest collection ‘Zoi’, a celebration of life. As the name suggests White Studios embodies purity and uniqueness. It was born as a merger of art with design, aesthetics, and experience. The synergy between the designers and ‘ustaads’ artisans is what makes their pieces unique. Each collection is inspired by different traditional crafts, historical art styles and contemporary shapes.
White Studios’ views each creation as more than just furniture but a narrative waiting to unfold and that is exactly how its latest collection Zoi was born. Some pieces may not conform to the conventional definitions of chairs, tables, or lamps, and that’s what White Studios embody – the essence of uniqueness and thoughtful design. The 16 artifact collection is inspired by the lively essence of the Maharashtrian tribal art form, Warli. The collection encompasses a diverse range, including accent chairs, loungers, side tables, center tables, floor lamps, serve ware, and decorative pieces. Within Zoi, lies ‘The Clan’ which emerges as a collection of smaller, decor objects. Handcrafted through sand casting and sheet metal fabrication,The Clan breathes life into the everyday. From a vase inspired by ladies carrying water matkas to a chip-n-dip platter reminiscent of people carrying a ‘palki,’ and a candle holder inspired by dancing figures, The Clan transforms routine into the extraordinary, urging us to celebrate life daily. These masterpieces are created using an array of craft techniques such as etching, sand casting, and metal fabrication. White Studios prides itself in creating experiences and not just selling furniture, by exploring materials and ways of merging arts with design, with a touch of ‘hand-made’.
“Zoi coalesces traditional Warli elements with iconic silhouettes, creating a maximalist cavern from afar that simplifies upon closer inspection, revealing the beauty of straight lines, circles, and triangles deeply rooted in every product.
