Sukoon-Peace, is the principle followed in planning this three-story home in a small city of Madhya Pradesh – Khetia. Designing a house is like exploring new ways of living.

Spread over 17000 sq. ft., this 9-bedroom home is planned in reference to 2 axes along the North-South axis, creating 3 vertical zones. The two side zones inhibit private spaces whereas the central zone houses common spaces like living, dining, gym, and sit-outs; while maintaining visual connectivity within and beyond the residence.

One enters the residence through a wide double-height verandah that leads to the foyer, adjoined by a Pooja Room and a double-height drawing room. The drawing room sits like an island surrounded by a semi-covered water body. On the other hand, the living room is like a sunroom that overlooks a beautiful landscape.

As one traverses through the spaces, they are never disconnected from the outdoors. The architecture beautifully composes frames that capture the plot’s colorful tree foliage. In contrast to the facade, the interiors of the room are as simple as they can be. A highlighting rug is placed beneath the furniture, enhancing the room’s light color palette and keeping it soft and breezy.

The heavy massing is designed in exposed brick and patterened concrete to ensure shade and breeze across the structure. The visually staggered mass created with playing in heights opens out on the North East facade to take in the natural light.

The material pallette is minimal with a balance of concrete and brick cladding. A pop of color through art, furnishings and lansdscape adds a sense of zest for the residents.

To conversate with the openness, around the house is designed as an open mass that is connected to the outsides  as well as the insides. The design is a composition of overlapping horizontal tapered slabs and double height walls and openings.
