How do you describe your journey in Vanbros? Your thoughts about Vanbros inception and being a part of a company like Vanbros?
It’s a family business that has been passed down through numerous generations, and we as children have grown up seeing this and learning the value of ethics from our fathers and grandfathers. Now our learnings are starting to come into play, and it’s magnificent to be a part of it. I have been a witness to the work being done at the factory and the sites all my life and making my understanding very in-depth realising what I need to do and how to do it.
In the beginning, how was your experience servicing the clients and industry which has limited exposure and understanding?
I believe that in terms of exposure, servicing clients and industry, we have always done excellent work with a varied clientele base by sheer word of mouth. By the Grace of God, we work with an ultra-niche set of eclectic clients who value us as their design partners.
Which was the first project and how was the experience doing it? Tell us more about the same in detail?
Talking about my first project with Vanbros, I started with a project for Mr. Jain, the owner of one of the biggest schools in Delhi, but speaking of the brand’s first few projects, I believe the project with the Jindals and Burmans was one of the first projects we worked on. We’ve been working with their brothers and sons for the past 70 years. While we started this wondrous journey with predominantly a woodwork factory that took the shape of turnkey construction projects. Our first construction project was with an esteemed brand like Dabur. So I think it was a great journey of how we evolved since we first started in the industry.
There was a lot of push from architects like Rasik Bahl, who were doing their projects, and the owners, the architect, and we collaborated flawlessly.Everyone came together and sorted out the details and specifics of the project. All believed in grasping that style of detailing, placing that type of hardware, and taking care of the quality, which then goes into the project’s construction and interiors.
Over the years, how has been your experience in the industry? What are the learnings and takeaways?
It is an experience with a broad spectrum considering the variation like the different clients. The list of clients we have worked with is a rather long one, and they still connect with us for work on the same or other projects. Our commitment to quality ensures an excellent perception for our brand in the market, and word of mouth works very well for us. Despite our vast experience in this field with clients and architects, we imbibe new lessons frequently. At the same time, executing a different concept, whether it’s a special kind of a facade or a new technology, we are adopting as there is a lot to learn. We believe in educating our workforce with every project to better ourselves, optimize our outputs, minimize our wastage and acquaint ourselves with the newest technologies available. I think there have been many learnings and takeaways from each project, financially, quality-wise, technologically, and so on. I think learning is always an ongoing process, and all of us have a thing or two to learn from each other, the staff, the employer, the architect, or the client.
Tell us about your recently completed projects and ongoing projects? Where? The uniqueness of it, highlight about them?
Answer – Among the recently completed projects we have a stunning property done up for Mr. Jain who is a renowned name in New Delhi, the owner of one of the biggest schools in the city. Referring to a few more, we have the Rangpuri project, the Red Brick House, the South City home, which is a very modern abode for which we have done lovely interiors, and the exteriors as well. In ongoing projects, we are currently working on a study room for a well-established client, an expansive home in Tughlaq road, a home in Golflinks, a farmhouse among others.
Which is the most challenging part of your work?
We’ve done over 500 projects so far in the 70 years of journey. Mostly everything has been in Delhi and Delhi NCR, Gurgaon. We have also been doing a lot of farmhouses, generally into the residential segment, real estates or villas. Taking up challenging work and enjoying it is our key strength. We see interacting with different people on projects as one of our most significant learning. A lot of back end research goes into most of the projects we undertake.
For example, in one of the houses, we have done the 20 feet cantilever, which is a difficult feat. To face the challenge, we collaborated with the structural engineer to figure out the detailing and then execute it with elan. We have managed to curve the walls of RCC, which may not be complicated, but it’s very complex. There are complexities involved in most of the Farmhouses we undertake, but we have mastered dealing with such situations. With a lot of well-earned pride, we can say that with the kind of work we are doing today, there’s not much we can’t handle.
What are the future plans of the company? What’s new and what is the USP of your work?
Answer – We want to be futuristic wherein we ace A-class machinery use and also craftsmanship. We believe in building lifelong bonds, because of which the people in our team have been with us for 40 to 50 Years. We work on faith, commitment and relationships which we have nurtured with both employees and clients over the past decades.
