Q. Who and What inspired you to take up this profession?

After graduating from the University of School of Architecture and Planning, New Delhi in 2010, I worked for 6 months before deciding to go independent. It was during this time of working as an architect with another firm when I realised that architecture had quickly become my passion. After gaining professional work experience, I later began taking up projects in partnership and successfully worked on multiple projects in Delhi-NCR.

Q. Do you think professional education helps? How has it helped you?

Yes, gaining a professional outlook towards a field does come in one’s aid in the long term. With my educational background and internships that followed, I am now adventuring with varied project typologies such as urban homes, farmhouses, hotels, schools, and commercial spaces. ASRO Arcade focuses on providing end-to-end architecture with an absolute depth of understanding on creating distinctive spaces and interiors.

Q. Which was your first project? Where? Share some of your memorable experiences?

I worked in a firm for 6 months after graduating and then decided to go independent. I gained considerable knowledge and work experience while being associated with this firm, I started taking up projects in partnership and successfully worked on multiple projects in Delhi-NCR. My first independent project was in Delhi itself.

Q. According to you how has architecture and interior design as a profession evolved over the years? What contributed to the changes?

Architecture and interior design as a profession has evolved over time in response to changes in culture and architecture, as well as with the progress of the industrial revolution. Constant changes are seen to be necessary to allow efficient space utilisation and user comfort. Societal needs and advancing innovation have played a major role in the evolution of architecture. The need for feasible design has contributed towards better development of schematic layouts and fashioned it into what it is today.

Q. What is your design style and what makes you unique amongst your new generation fellow competitors?

The team at ASRO Arcade aims at providing spaces that work in synchronicity with its surroundings and have a unique design style with a magnetic aura to it. I try to design projects that can make spaces significantly plusher and engaging for human interaction.

I strongly believe in delivering all-inclusive concepts and building eco-friendly sustainable homes. Such schematic layouts make the interiors lively and more interactive to the user, which gives me an edge over the other designers. I believe that architecture is the mother of all art that is used not only by humans but also by living things on earth in everyday life.

Q. What is your opinion about awards?

Awards and accolades help get professionals more recognised in their respective fields. As architecture is not a well-known profession, awards attached to them aid in motivating the upcoming architects, ultimately raising the bar of the platform as a whole. This way, all projects coming up are this more technologically advanced and feasibly designed with innovative long-lasting solutions.

Q. India in itself has a rich influential heritage of architecture and interior design such as Temple, Dravidian, Kalinga, and Mugal! Is it the time that compelled the changes or any other factors that contributed? Your views

India has been known for its rich architecture since the beginning of time. Architecture in India is rooted in the country’s history, culture and religious heritage. I strongly believe that our culture is deeply rooted in ancient architecture. with various dynasties coming to power, each with its own distinct culture, architecture, evolved with time. Among all, Hindu temples and Islamic designs have been known the best because of their history and rich ethnicity in designs. Each architectural style holds an influence from its time of emergence, thus shaping it to what it is today.

Q. In modern times, do we see many of our structures influenced by Colonial, Western Gothic style of architecture? How do you see architecture and interior design in present times and in the coming future?

Architecture has always been a way of designing and constructing optimised spaces. The end product is always focused on how users interact with their surroundings. The core function of architecture entails designing how one interacts as a society in their environment and with other people.

Indian architects are now getting highly influenced by the colonial and western Gothic styles. There is no doubt that architecture plays a major role in our day to day lives. The world we live in is full of creative ideas. I feel that in the near future, innovative sustainable solutions will play a key role in taking architecture forward.

Q. What is missing in Indian Architecture? Which new architectural practices will be game-changers in the near future?

Today, with architecture, there is less use of digital tools like fabricated technologies, machine learning, artificial intelligence and Big Data. Such tools will soon become more and more pervasive and quickly. There is a rising interest in the impact technology has in our daily lives and this interest has expanded the use of tools in all professional practises.

Augmented reality, 3D printing and artificial intelligence will be the eminent game changers within the design process. With the use of digital software and methodology, it has become convenient to navigate how one experiences their built environment and to construct infrastructure that helps to better communicate with their surroundings.

VR & Immersive Architecture

“VR is a huge leap forward for projects in the conceptual stage. Clients can actually see the proposed designs as they are intended. It’s powerful” Virtual reality technology has seen rapid developments in recent years and this is most apparent in the architectural, engineering and construction industry. Although Big Data has a lot of buzz around it, I believe that in many ways it is still a relatively new and unexplored concept. However, its potential for human analysis is already obvious.
