The legendary glassmaker, Daum is a crystal studio based in Nancy, France. They are known for its close relationship with the greatest artists of its time since its inception in 1878, as well as a brush with modern savoir-faire. Daum is the only commercial crystal manufacturer employing the pâte de verre (glass paste) process for art glass and crystal sculptures, a technique in which crushed glass is packed into a refractory mould and then fused in a kiln. Daum available at Emery Studio has unveiled spectacular new crystal sculptures from the Animal Collection.
Daum continues to pay tribute to the animal kingdom through the richness of the colors and the minute details of the artworks. Animals in Daum crystal demonstrate an exceptional mastery of the lost-wax technique. Madeleine van der Knoop is a distinguished Belgian sculptor, born in Brussels. True masterpieces, the sculptures of Madeleine van der Knoop reveal an intense realism, while revealing a personal touch. A re-edition of the Gyrfalcon Hawk was born from the rich collaboration between Madeleine van der Knoop and Daum. The Animal Art collection at Daum expands with the addition of this magnificent bird of prey in a realist style that makes a reference to the art of falconry. Perched on a beautifully patinated bronze base, the almighty hawk is adorned with jet-black obsidian stones and a gilded beak in 24k gold. The meticulous detail of the sculpture is yet another testament of the incredible talent of the Daum craftsmen.
