Stubbs, who is on a relentless mission to build an ergonomic India, shares his views on the importance of ergonomics in the workplace as well as Humanscale’s recent India Launch of its ‘Perfect Workstation’ to meet the growing demand for comprehensive ergonomic solutions in the workplace (office or home) that enhances health and productivity:
- What exactly is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics is about designing for people. Defined as the science of fitting a workplace to the user’s needs, ergonomics aims to increase employee efficiency and productivity and reduce discomfort.
Think about the angle of your computer monitor, or the height of your desk. Think about whether your eyes are strained by the end of the day or if your wrists hurt from typing. A sound understanding of ergonomics can prevent most workplace injuries by adjusting tools to the user, putting an emphasis on proper posture to reduce the impact of repetitive movements.
The use of computers and rapidly changing technology in the modern workplace has greatly increased the need for ergonomics. Desks, chairs, monitors, keyboards and lighting all need to be assessed when creating a workspace, whether it is at the office or at home.
Ergonomics also takes into account the need for movement throughout the day. Office furniture has traditionally encouraged stiff, fixed postures and little movement. However, a balance between sitting and standing, which can be aided with a height-adjustable desk, is a proven way to combat the effects of sedentary workplace behaviour.
- Why is ergonomics in the workplace key to employee comfort and productivity?
Using ergonomic furniture and equipment which are designed to support extended hours of work without compromising comfort, can significantly reduce physical discomfort, leading to fewer distractions and a more engaged workforce. Additionally, an innovative sit-stand desk provides employees with flexibility to shift between sitting and standing postures, fostering movement throughout the day. This adaptability not only enhances physical well-being but also helps employees feel more energised.
By integrating products which promotes movement with an easy-to-use sit-stand solution, businesses can create collaborative spaces and areas designed for work and relaxation. These setups support employee well-being and productivity, creating a positive feedback loop where employees feel valued and motivated to perform at their best.
All of Humanscale’s work tools are inherently ergonomic. They are created to be intuitive and adjust effortlessly to the user. Our products are created to promote daily movement and physical activity, while supporting the user’s posture.
3. Can you elaborate on your recent India launch of Humanscale’s ‘Perfect Workstation’?
Humanscale’s ‘Perfect Workstation’, which would be an unmatched blend of Ergonomics, Design and Technology that the brand is globally renowned for, would comprise of an H-Frame Linear Workstation combined with Height Adjustable Desk, Ergonomic Chair, Monitor arm, Docking station and a Keyboard system.
Many companies in India now prefer to procure complete workstations from a single supplier to ensure compatibility, streamline procurement processes, and potentially receive better pricing and service. With a bundled solution like the ‘Perfect Workstation’, Humanscale can cater to this market preference effectively. By offering a complete workstation, Humanscale aims to provide a holistic approach to office ergonomics. This ensures that all aspects of the workspace are designed to promote health, comfort, and productivity.
