‘Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is sometimes so simple that it is complicated!’ Sounds a bit confusing right? Well, Bora Da – a delhi based design studio, is one of the living examples of why this quote exists. Since their inception in 2019, Bora Da has manifested artistic interiors that resonate with the client’s visions and yet showcase the power of creative exuberance. Founded by Udaai Batra and Navneet Kaur, this studio is not just about designing a space, but creating a realm possessing a strong sense of character and spatial planning, along with aesthetics.
The name ‘Bora Da’ has been derived from the hindi word “burada” (बुरादा), signifying sawdust and also inspired from the spanish language where a strong west wind is also referred to by a similar name. Thus, Bora Da – as their etymology suggests, might have been built from little pieces put together but today they are a dynamic and creative wave that aims to bedazzle the world of Design with their unique craft! Or as Ar. Udaai Batra likes to state, “We strive to create spaces that are pieces of art in themselves, and bring the visualized space into reality while executing it to the utmost precision maintaining the best quality.”
Founding designer duo Udaai and Navneet are both disciples of curating unique and unconventional designs, however, their creative energies are sourced from quite different philosophies. The beauty and divergence of built facades around the world is what drives the passion in Udaai. Each of his travels have taught him something different about design; which he then applies to his work with slight amends based on the specificity of the site and region. Navneet on the other hand is a fan of the Egyptian Industrial Designer – Kareem Rashid. “His work is centered around an ideology where he urges designers to just not glance at everyday objects, but perceive them as muses of inspiration…to see beyond convention. And that’s what I always prefer!”, explained the beaming designer. Owing to their design prowess, Bora Da has successfully completed numerous popular structures for renowned brands including The Janak, Haldirams, Pop n Hop, Reeti Arneja, Torani, Bharat & Reshma, Ajjay Mehrra and Oh So Stoned. IFJ, VM-RD, The Architect’s Diary, Interior Exterior, AceTech, Hindustan Times, Design Essentia, Architect are just a few of the names where their multifarious works and concepts have been published.
