It was this intent to explore and learn along the way that amplified our journey in the previous ten years. Looking back at the design industry a few years ago, clients preferred doing their homework and sticking to a specific ‘design trend’ with a desire for their house to look the same. Today, clients give us the freedom to let our creative juices flow and create unique designs. The studio’s motto is ‘Yes is More’, addressing the client’s requirements as an essential part of the design methodology. That said, we first decode the client brief, research extensively upon it and then take action for every project that comes our way.
Over the last ten years, Open Atelier Mumbai has left no stone unturned to create a diverse portfolio with projects focusing on spatial experiences, contemporary and modern style, luxury, classic design and more. To achieve top-notch quality and the best results, the team has constantly been studying international design standards and technologies. As a result, a blend of Indian standards with western techniques in our projects has been a prominent and successful step in the last ten years.
The most crucial design strategy that changed for us in the previous decade was switching from on-site furniture curation to outsourcing them. Previously, almost the entire furniture of a house was built by carpenters on-site, which did not provide the finesse that factory-made furniture offers now. Nearly 60-70% of design elements like sliding doors, furniture, partitions and more are directly sourced for all our projects. This increases efficiency, ensures quality and precision and lets the other site activities work smoothly on site.
Open Atelier Mumbai’s X-factor is that it is highly research-driven; Be it a minute detail or creating an entire space, the team reads, studies and researches in depth before moving on to making layouts and design schemes. Placing a heavy emphasis on the experiential quality of spaces, we craft spaces that narrate the life of urban individuals and reflect their needs. In addition, an in-depth exploration of forms and materials curates an ephemeral experience.
