Any project where we have a chance to make better use of the given space excites me says Interior Designer Geeta Krishna
How do you describe your journey in this male-dominated industry?
I was lucky never having to face such a culture. It has been a happy journey thanks to my family, clients, colleagues & service providers. Yes, I would like to acknowledge one fact that had I been a man I would have done more business not necessarily more success & more satisfaction.
Who has been your inspiration in the process of your entire career?
There have been more than one person. Arch. Brinda Somaya for her oeuvre of work in sustainable design. Syrie Maugham for her all white interiors. Karim Rashid & Phillipe Starck for reinventing luxury interiors.
Which has been your first project? Where? What was it? How has been your experience?
My first project was a small office space for law firm. The learnings were worth a treasure. When I look back, the deciding authority being a woman actually must have helped me bagged that project. Never thought creating office spaces will become my forte.
What type of projects captures your interest or rather interested to do?
Any project where we have a chance to make better use of the given space excites me.
Your most challenging projects; where and why? Tell us more about the same?
While every project has its own challenges, one particular project comes to my mind. It was super challenging to transform a bare-shell 5000 sq.ft. into a fully functional office in less than 45 days. We managed the whole project like a clock work and the client’s team has been very supportive and quick in their design & material approvals. As designers we must understand the clients’ space & design needs. There is no 2 ways about it. It always helps when the client is open for designers’ suggestions and respects the design decisions. This kind of mutual trust brings in super efficiency to the whole project.
Tell us about your upcoming projects; where and what type; schedule of completions?
We are very excited about an office space we are designing in one of the high raises. It is a corner office with glass façade (obviously J) We are really looking forward to having a great brainstorming sessions with the super energetic client team. The project is in design stage now and scheduled for handover in mid of May’22.
Your wise words to next-gen stepping into this profession?
It’s a great creative field but project management & quality workmanship are the most important deciding factors for your success.
