Q. The evolution with time. Describe the journey of women architects/interiors then and now?
In the history of journey about women architects we cannot but discuss Zaha Hadid and how a trailblazer, she has been. State of women in architecture & interior architecture has made progress, but yet a long way to go, whilst the number of women, as clients, project-managers, specialized technical consultants & as architects’ is rising, architecture is still largely – a predominant male profession, as is the construction industry on the whole.
Though it cannot be ignored for long, that the world architecture is increasingly witnessing women design leadership. Architecture is slowly, but, definitively on the path of course correction, misogyny and gender bias plagued the profession for long enough!Q. What is your core strength that has worked for you, weathering challenges over the years?
Perseverance…. to Paraphrase David Chipperfield “the difference between good architecture and bad architecture, is the time you spend on it”
Q. Would like to know more on your upcoming work? What new projects are you doing?
For the last couple of years, the studio dedicates its time on both on professional works as well on exciting research projects.
Amongst the current projects we are excited about a Water Sports Resort project in one of the most Scenic part of North Kerala along with a Façade & Fenestration Experience/ Innovation Centre and a very aberrant single-family residence. We are also exited & honored to be invited by Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, New York to be part of the ground-breaking Humanitarian Series Exhibition- Designing Peace, due in the first half of 2022.
On the Research front, currently the studio is giving leadership to the preservation / restoration of ancient mosques of Kerala, with a great team comprising of architects, artists and historians from Kerala. The typology of Kerala mosques are unlike anything in other parts of the world, and hence needs urgent interventions to preserve them.
