What is the current trend of the wooden flooring industry? How much market share has it captured?
According to reports, the Indian wood and laminate flooring market are expected to reach USD 113.1 million by 2030. Wooden flooring in our architectural and interior design projects has shifted from a laminated, cost-effective floor covering to a luxurious finish. With exotic engineered veneer floors, patterns and heritage-style European flooring, the legacy of wooden flooring has finally found its niche in India.
Is the wooden flooring Industry at par with other International markets?
India is relatively new to modern wooden flooring, and so much more can be done. Considering the market is still developing, the range and options for wooden flooring are often limited. It will take a few more years for durable and native materials such as marble to replace imported engendered and natural wood flooring. Nevertheless, the market has expanded dramatically in the past few years. Many sustainable and climate-sensitive natural wood options, such as oak and teak, are readily available in India. In addition, better quality and finishes are now available at premium prices.
Do you think the wooden flooring segment is a popular option for Indians, knowing the weather here?
There is a myth that wooden flooring is restricted only to cooler climates. Certain types of wood, such as engineered variations, work well in warm and humid climates. Wooden floors offer great acoustic properties and bring warmth and class to the decor. Considering that most luxury interiors use air-conditioning and temperature is controlled, more variations of wood can be used. Our space has DG glass, and we use this material’s luxury to our advantage!
What factors make businesses or industrial houses choose wooden flooring?
Commercial spaces and business houses both prefer wooden because of their umpteen benefits. The right type of wood, when installed correctly and maintained properly, can last for years. While one may avoid wood in high-traffic areas such as lobbies or reception spaces, they are a great option for conference rooms, workspaces, hospitality spaces such as hotel rooms and more.
What is the future of wooden flooring in India?
Wooden floors will emerge as a mainstream material. Many homeowners and designers now prefer installing wooden finishes in their spaces because they exude an inviting vibe and soften the ambience. We are now witnessing a surge in specialised brands introducing more varieties of wood pan-India. Considering that the market for repurposed wood has also grown, more sustainable options are available. Plus, one should ensure they source wood ethically to minimise environmental damage.
