We at Godrej truly believe in the triple bottom line of social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The idea of Green runs across 5Ps that is people, process, product, profit and planet. 92 per cent of the Godrej portfolio is green with efforts underway to explore retrofits on older legacy projects. Every building which is designed by the group and which is brought to the market is now at least IGBC silver rated. Anubhav Gupta, Chief Design Officer, Business Head- Vikhroli & Head-CSR & Sustainability, Godrej Properties Limited says that we strongly believe that the true benefits of green living are realized over their lifecycle, which would significantly benefit customers by reducing their consumption and cost while positively benefiting the environment.

Please give us an overview about your upcoming project?

We have a growing portfolio of over 50 projects across 12 cities in India with approximately 132.7 mn. sq.ft. of development across residential and commercial asset classes. Among other projects, we will be shortly announcing Godrej Origins, our third IGBC Platinum rated residential project at our flagship development at The Trees in Vikhroli, Mumbai. The Trees is a mixed-use community spread over 35 acres of prime land consisting of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and civic uses. We have saved over 85% of the natural tree cover on site and we recently completed our international award winning adaptive reuse project – The Imagine Studio, which currently serves as our experience center. Our group HQ, Godrej One (fully certified IGBC Platinum rated), anchors The Trees development with a growing community of environmentally conscious citizens who have chosen to make this their home.

Let us know about the biggest role of the architect while planning the green living projects?

Architects and urban designers play a critical role in planning for green projects. It is in the genesis of the scheme, sensitive response to the context and the environment that most passive tools are deployed to set up the right bones of the project. If this is faulty, there is a fair potential of harm to both the environment and the user over the long term. Selection of materials, fixtures, building details and technology are the next steps. Good architects are both technical and creative experts ensuring an optimal balance in the ease of use, comfort, aesthetics and sustainability.

Do you get the innovative ideas for your projects through international projects or it can be said that even India is not far behind when it comes to innovations. What is your say on this?

Innovation by nature is boundary agnostic – it can come from anywhere. Similarly inspiration can come from anywhere. That said, India has a rich tradition and robust track record of creativity and innovation across industries. We believe in putting together diverse and talented people who can creatively problem solve to ensure an ongoing sustainable cycle of innovation that powers growth. We work with both domestic as well as international partners on our projects to ensure that we deliver cutting edge innovative products and experiences to our customers. We proudly design and make in India.
